Australian Democrats interim leader Senator BRIAN GREIG has appealed to the party'srenegade senator, ANDREW MURRAY, to work with him towards reconciliation.

Senator GREIG was last night elected interim leader by the party's national executivein a snub to deputy leader ADEN RIDGEWAY.

Senator GREIG's told Channel Seven it's very disappointing that Senator MURRAY reportedlybelieved his appointment wouldn't reconcile the party.

Senator GREIG says now isn't the time for bitterness or recriminations.

He says if Senator MURRAY is serious about reconciliation, then he needs to work withhim to get the party back on track.

Senator GREIG says the party room can now work together under him.

He says the four senators who had found themselves unable or unwilling to support SenatorNATASHA STOTT DESPOJA as leader don't hold the same antipathies or hostilities againsthim.
