WA: 1,500 march for Easter

PERTH, April 23 AAP - An estimated 1,500 people marched through the streets of Perth
today as part of Awakening 2000, a national program of festivities designed to reclaim
Easter.

West Australian co-ordinator of Awakening 2000 Andrew Braun said the march was supported
by all of the main-line Christian churches and was a way of celebrating Easter that was
visible to the public.

"It is a way for all of the major Christian churches to get together and celebrate
the most significant event on the Christian calendar," Mr Braun said.

"The march is also about refocusing on the true meaning of Easter, self sacrifice and
giving," he said.
